Wait wait wait, Bismarck was not sunk by the British. In fact she was scuttled by her own crew to prevent the British from capturing and reusing her. Yes, the damage done devastated the superstructure of her. But the Bismarck's main hull was so well and heavily armoured the enemy shells simply bounced off her. Therefore there was no way any shell can severely puncture her belt below the waterline.

Remember that Germany is the size of Texas and Japan the size of California and both had limited natural resources. Both had been at war years before we entered because many Americans wanted to remain neutral. The outcome could have easily been different if Hitler had listened to his military. I hate to think how the world would be today.
