Johnny Cash's manager Saul Holiff, gave my mom an autographed copy of this album, Saul lived up the street from us as I grew up in the 60's and early 70's. It sure was neat to see the Statler Bros bus going up Jarvis St. to the Holiffs house, I babysat for Saul and Barb and reconnected With Barb and her sons Jonathan and Joshua Holiff when Jonathan came back to London Ontario to show his new film to us. The film is called " My Father and the Man in Black" the trailer for the film is on youtube under the same name as the film, and there is a facebook page of the same name. some neat never seen photo's on the facebook page. Jonathan's father Saul committed suicide in 2005 and they had not spoken in about 20 years. Saul kept a locker full of all the Cash material he had, there was 66 hours of audio diarys and phone calls between Johnny, June and Saul. Saul Holiff got tired of Johnny forgetting he had agreed to doing gigs and concerts so he started taping all the calls from London to Tennessee so Johnny could not say he didn't agree to the dates. The film Jonathan Holiff made is factual, he used the material his father kept in that locker for all those years. In the audio diary's Saul kept he also talked about his lack of ability to have a relationship with his oldest son. His younger son was so hurt by his father he changed his last name legally to his mothers maiden name. The film shows the effect of alcohol and drugs on a family as well as what it did to Johnny. Johnny came out of it and built a new life for himself and got the love of his lifetime(besides music) June Carter. It was exciting to babysit for the Holiff's cause you never knew who might come home with them. Met Johnny, June, the Tennessee three, the statler bros. Have a look at the trailer for the film "My Father and the man in Black" it is here on youtube under the name of the film. I am not advertising for any reason other than the fact, it is a good film of facts not malicious fiction about the 13 years Johnny spent as Sauls Client, Saul quit working for Johnny in 1973 and never worked again until his suicide in 2005. He left no note. So Barb Holiff gave the key to a locker to her eldest son, saying there might be something in this locker that might help you to know your father. 66 hrs of audio diarys and more memorabilia than you could imagine, and 3 gold records given to saul for A boy named sue and a few others. IT was exciting to be a teenager on Jarvis St. London Ontario Canada I'll tell ya.
