I caught one error in the lyrics. The line "Cuz I am cool as a kick" should read ". . . as a cuc'" (Letters C - U - C and apostrophe for the missing letters), i.e., "cool as a cucumber" (the vegetable) since that is an old saying, and it rhymes with "kook".10 years ago

The Mel Tormé reference is supported by the "salt peanuts" interjection between choruses. "Salt Peanuts" was a bebop piece (by Dizzy Gillespie, if I recall correctly) from the late forties and now seems hopelessly outdated. Mel's version of the song (with George Shearing) uses the peanuts interjection to show how out of touch the character actually is. The Bobby Darin reference, on the other hand, is lifted from Blossom Dearie's version: "Bobby Darin knows my friend".12 years ago

Weird how it's 2/3 of the way through this great, great number before the audience seems finally to feel permission to laugh at all the super-clever lyrics.
