super job!!! this standard is easy to play, even just by using pentatonic scales… obviously this is a super solo, another level.

I´ve read a couple of dissapointing things. First, it´s true that he´s not the best singer and he uses basics chords (ninth and seventh) but I´m not really sure if everyone´s able to do this with his agility along the fretboard. Jazz mussic is not only alt. chords or whatever, specially in swing music. We also have a lot of rythm and this part is absolutely amazing because he´s also doing the walking bass line.OK, chords or harmony in general can be more sofisticated. The thing is be able to make things work, make music and, of course, listening the result and not things that are not top. Every musician has a special quality. I don´t know any musician like C.Parker, Coltrane or Metheny, all in the same guy.

Kind of like Djengo on the rhythm . John is great because he knows the lyrics and the original vocal melodies of 1000 tunes ,he accompanies himself with generally basic chording . I would imagine when he sits down with a chart he sight sings the vocals and reads the chords ,and always takes that approach . He is actually a throwback to the Big band era in that respect

Joke: What's the difference between a Rock guitarist and a Jazz guitarist?Rock guitarists play 3 chords in front of thousands of people and Jazz guitarists play thousands of chords in front of 3 people.@ Russ Jalichandra… John's a sweet guy. In my experience jazz musicians are the most humble, self defacing people on the planet, they beat themselves up all the time. The universal rule is, when a know-it-all enters the scene foolishly waving the banner of what he or she doesn't know… well let's just say it's a drag. Watch another video posted by FretBoard Journal where Bill Frisell and John Pizzarelli perform as a duo – observe their dialogue and take note of their mutual respect and humility.
