I just heard Troubled Man for the first time. I began following "Johnny Cougar" in the late 70s and saw him perform in Louisville in 1981 as the opening act for Heart. (I left after JC's set.) I have more or less stopped following his music during the past few years. While I still enjoy his music (or at least some of it), its appeal to me has waned over time. Notwithstanding these comments, Mellencamp's music is in my opinion the most enduring of any artist during the past 35 years.

Damn John, go back to being a rocker or just hang it up. This new album is forgettable in every way!This guy hasn't put out anything worth listening to in over 20 years. His last 2 good albums were "Human Wheels" & "Whenever We Wanted"

Seems like he may have "borrowed" some elements from a few songs from the BoDeans album Outside Looking In to to make this song. The song "I'm In Trouble Again" is one of the songs and I need to listen to the album again to figure out the other influence(s). If you've never heard Outside Looking In by the BoDeans you have missed out. One of the best albums ever made by an American band.
