I've never been able to understand The Shenandoah and the Missouri River. We lived next to the Missouri River in Leavenworth, Kansas.

This is a beautiful song. One of my fondest memories was going on Skyline Drive and stopping to look down on the Shenandoah River and Valley. It is truly God's Country.

Thank you for these beautiful songs. I am 3 generations removed from a Donegal family who came in the 1850's and this music moves me to remember. I had the pleasure of visiting Ireland for a week a few years back and oved it. Thanks again

Yesterday was the 38th anniversary of the loss of my beloved Mom. It was a sad few days with the 13th anniversary of 9/11 here in NYC and then, I remembered all of your youtube postings of John and came here again to hear that beautiful voice. He gets right to the heart. Thanks you again, Lady GreyC. for putting John where he can be heard.

Shenandoah: {John Gate} sings of a she doe on the land, his love for his daughter upon the sands of the land in which the flowing arteries of water cast artistic veins which mold her into a witch. This is the Latter Day Pygmalion story of creation that is Lion-Dragon 7/26/1964 B.A.S. + {Daughter of the Sun} & now Mother of Louis Bullock.

As I listen to this version I can close my eyes and be transported back to the Shenandoah Valley which I visited. Just a beautiful, moving rendition of a song that is American.

Thanks so much for posting. My father played this song in the car as a kid. I scoured Youtube until I found the exact version. I immediately knew this was the one as soon as it started. Thank you.

Thanks to you for your words! :-) Yes, I agree with you: my daughter thinks the same thing about books, in fact she reads many old books and almost no modern books! Sometime people seems to believe that newest is best, but it's not always like this...
