The finest rendition of this aria in history. It remains my favorite performance of this great Mozart aria. My dream is that I may teach a tenor to sing with this level of beauty, precision, integrity, freedom and control. Every time I hear John McCormack I am filled with hope and joy.

Tom Ahern. John McCormack, Stuart Burrows and Jussi Bjorling, I just love them all and would listen to them forever.

I note Bjoerling sings it 15 seconds faster. Just saying. Both a sent from the angels.

TIMELESS TREASURES

Effortless, elegant, elan...A belcanto tenor for the Ages...Simplicity is the ultimatesophistication...However, John McCormack's high vocal art is infinitely accessible, understandable and beloved. Thank You!

The master at the height of his powers! I bought this on a 12 inch red label HMV 78. About a Spaniard, in Italian with music by an Austrian, sung by an Irishman and recorded in America - truly international!

+ellandelachapelle Stuart Burrows not only manages to sing that entire long passage you mention, but also the phrase after it, all on one breath...which I believe is the way it was written to be sung. I have never found another tenor who could do this. Burrows may not have increased volume the way McCormack does, but he effortlessly sang the long phrase and the phrase following in one breath. There was no loss of support, nor was there a gasp for breath afterward.

Marvelous!!!, so ellegant and charming!!!!, he is in vocal comand in 1005 of this difficult aria. He really is a "master class" and model to follow for all tenors, Hurra John McCormack!!!...BRAVO!!!!

Sorry "grig 035".My comment about the great Richard Tauber seems very wrong here! Was referring, at the time that I preferred his singing in German/Austrian as he seemed, naturally, more at home with this. I have many old records of Tauber, and some LPs, bought in the 1950s which I treasure. I will always love his rendition in English of Girls Are Made to Love and Kiss. Again, my comment was a hurried one and, at my age, out of charecter....but we all make mistakes! Eddie.

From 2:42 until 2:49 that's actually the loveliest, longest F that I have ever heard! The best rendition of this aria so far :)

Probably the most celebrated recording of Mozart's marvellous aria from Don Giovanni

Wrong: He sang in many languages. We have concert tapes with Don Jose's 'fleur" aria in French, etc. He performed Don Ottavio in Italian at Covent Garden, cutting 2 tracks from Don Ottavio in Italian right during the CG run. You can hear one at /watch?v=GHwlZCActC4. It's true I previously pointed to /watch?v=iNvs-dm5A28 instead, strictly because the agility there is more fluent. But the other one is in Italian because that's what he sang it in at the time, getting rave notices, BTW.

I have enjoyed this wonderful recording since about 1950. Now it is very pleasant to be able to hear others of this great belcanto artist here. His recording of Come to me soothing street is another that shows off his extraordinary breath control.
