His acoustic demos are so much fucking better than the produced versions. Idk what it is that happens in the studio. Maybe it's that he insisted on putting fucking brass instruments on every track from Walls and Bridges on. I'm exaggerating of course.

I think without McCartney , Lennon had some great start off points with his songwriting but 8 out of 10 times it wouldn't go anywhere. Same with McCartney as well......they really did compliment each other and created magic!

I read Lennon use to leave 1000s of these demo tapes all over his house and when contractors or delivery guys would come over they would find them on the floor and pick them up. I know this is true because a friend of mine told me exactly that, that in the 70s he went to the Dakota to install carpet in Lennons place, said he had one room that was all white and one that was all black, and he had a ton of cassette tapes all over the floor. That's why you find a ton of these demos on Youtube today
