Practicing 15 hours a day doesn't ensure that someone will be a good musician. Proficient with their instrument, probably. But you can find thousands of musicians that can noodle on a guitar in very technical ways, but end up sounding generic because there's no real creativity there. I've heard all of his stuff, including with Mars Volta. Just not my thing.

I didn't put John and George in the same bracket, you did! When you used as an argument the fact that Frusciante was "good" just because he was in "one of the biggest bands of all time, 10 or so solo albums and a huge following...". I'm afraid but I was caught in what it seems to be a "Frusciante Fan Channel" where the mandatory truth is that this dude can be comparable to real musicicans and composers as Roy Orbison, Bill Frisell or György Ligeti.
