I never thought I'd live to see the day

Anyone could turn my head the other way

She squirmed beside him, her mind was made Now she can't say that anymore I've never done this sort of thing before Once you get started it ain't all that hard Then he got up and locked that cheatin' door Now she can't say that anymore

At home her porch lights burnin' as she fumbles for the key Tonight she jumps the fences but she didn't quite get free She's as cool as a salesman as he opens the door she's breakin' in a new new routine for the man who walks the floor

Mama insisted that I stay awhile You're treatin' me as if I were on trial I've never lied to you she kindly smiled Now she can't say that anymore

At home her porch lights burnin' as she fumbles for the key Tonigh she jumps the fences but she didn't quite get free She's as cool as a salesman as he opens the door She's breakin' in a new routine for the man who walks the floor Now she can't say that anymore Now she can't say that anymore Now she can't say that anymore Now she can't say that anymore Now she can't say that anymore

LOL When I was a teenager, I always thought he was saying, "Tonight, she jumps and pinches, but she didn't quite get free," meaning that, after coming to her senses, she tried to jump away, slapping and pinching her lover, as if to get away from him so she go back home to her husband. It's funny how misheard lyrics can change the meaning of a song. LOL

I would suggest Jim Glaser "The Light of Albuquerque" and Hal Ketchum "Past the Point of Rescue" for similar but unique style.

This reminds me of being a little kid, in Texas, and my mom playing her country albums. My step dad looked just like John Conlee.

I was to young to know what he was talking about when I heard this song for the first time. I damn sure know what it means today. I hope fools get into Heaven.
