The "James Bond Theme" is the main theme of all the James Bond films and has featured in every one since 'Dr. No' in 1962. There have been ongoing court battles between John Barry and Monty Norman as both claim to have written the music - either way, it's burned into our memories and is instantly recognised when played.

Sadly, it was a contractual thing. If you listen to the awful, lame pseudo calypso music for the rest of the film, you know Norman didn't write this. "Dr.No" was made on the cheap, about $800,000 give or take. Broccoli and Saltzman didn't know if it would take off and hired this nobody for the music. But they knew they needed a great theme. Barry was a red hot jazz/rock musician and was hired to rescue the film. Monty never did anything of any note before or after. But he demanded his contract give him all credit. Bum. This is Barry's!

I'm quoting here -(quote) The James Bond theme song was originally composed by Monty Norman for the first Bond film, Dr. No, in 1962. Unsatisfied with the sound, the producers hired composer John Barry to rearrange the song. Barry, who was a successful recording artist with a unique instrumental band, added rock and jazz elements, making it more up-tempo. The result was a sharper, catchier, more electrifying song, which became the iconic tune we all know today. Barry was paid a one-time fee of £250 (approximately $700 USD) for his work while Monty Norman, who received the writing credit, has accumulated well over $1 million in royalties. Many legal battles have since transpired over golden credit, with Norman emerging the victor every time. Despite Barry’s version being infinitely more well known, he hasn’t seen a cent from it since he was paid that small sum 42 years ago. (unquote)

1. Vic Flic (the bassist for this session) actually coudn't re-create this sound. His amplifier cracked and we're "stuck" with these recordings.2. Maurice Binder (the title maker) couldn't re-create the "gun barrel effect".He was able to do it only once...but once was enough!GREAT JOB,JOHN BARRY. R.I.P.

I've been watching Bond movies since 'Dr No' and since I was a schoolkid. Even today, as a 64 year old man, this music gives me goosebumps! It's become an integral part of James Bond!
