"Uma das mais curiosas, mais charmosas e mais difundidas baladas inglesas" nas palavras de Vaughan-Willians e A. L. Lloyd. O casamento entre adolescentes para a consolidação da fortuna da família era comum na Inglaterra feudal, e essa comovente e arcaica balada parece baseada em um fato dessa natureza.

This sound is low quality because it was extracted from the second LongPlay of Joan Baez (Volume 2), originality of 1961. I do my best but I didn't get to remove the noises. Sorry!

The Argentinean version of that LP was release by Del Repertorio Vanguard in 1961 and received the subtitle "Old Blues". Apart from that, it is exactly equal to the American North version.

It is wonderful to flip back and forth between this and the Italian version - gli alberi sono alti.

there is beautiful version of this song on youtube by a very rare band, you can search by "Vos Cantu Monemus [USA] - b_5. Trees They Do Grow High", too much loner vibe.

I have this album on vinyl, the same cover as shown here, it's one of my most treasured possesions...even tho' I don't have the facility to play it anymore! This is one of my favourite songs on the album, thanks so much for posting.

The company that released these albums in Argentina was Music Hall. famous in those years for the hight quality of its repertoires as for the bad quality of the printings! The album was titled OLD BLUE instead of 2nd (maybe for commercial reasons) I do have that monoaural copy too!

It has always mesmerized me as to how a single person can sing and play the guitar simultaneously and yet be so awesomely perfect at both!

This is one I have never heard. What a classic Irish or Scott folk song.

I first heard her sing thing in the late seventies when I found this album in a thrift store. I would still have that album, except all my belongings including my record collection were stolen from me abuot 15 years ago. So glad I can her it here.

Well thanks dude - I also copied the Italian lyrics from the internet and sang along in Italian for an hour. Easy to understand as I have Latin. You cast a seed and a flower grows.

I love this ballad!!! Give a look at the italian version by Angelo Branduardi, it's called "Gli alberi sono alti"...

Alan Stivell made in my humble opinion a better interpretation that you can hear on the Olympia record, the romantic flow given by his Harp is astounding. But that not objective and just reflects my own tastes to say That or That version is better.
