LYRICS :

Hello darkness, my old friend,

I've come to talk with you again,

Because a vision softly creeping,

Left its seeds while I was sleeping,

And the vision that was planted in my brain

Still remains

Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone

Narrow streets of cobblestone,

'Neath the halo of a street lamp,

I turned my collar to the cold and damp

Beatles The sound of silence Lyrics

When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light

That split the night

And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw

Ten thousand people, maybe more.

People talking without speaking,

People hearing without listening,

People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dare

Disturb the sound of silence.

'Fools' said I, 'You do not know

Silence like a cancer grows.

Hear my words that I might teach you,

Take my arms that I might reach you.'

But my words like silent raindrops fell,

And echoed

In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed

To the neon god they made.

And the sign flashed out its warning,

In the words that it was forming.

And the sign said, 'The words of the prophets

are written on the subway walls

And tenement halls.'

And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

music still "means something" you just have to look for it, it's easy to get caught up in nostalgia but if all your exposing yourself to is radio your aren't going to get anywhere... I will agree music isn't appreciated as it once was. I mean music serves as backround noise to some kids' video games. I mean maybe i'm just old but music doesn't seem to resonate with kids anymore... I mean before napster/itunes almost everybody had a collection of music that they turned to as it is/was an artform that spanned evolved over generations. The quality of music isn't "suffering" it's the culture and the way people perceive it which makes it feel as if there is nothing modern that can be good... I mean lets be fair at some point in many people lives they had that band or song that they could relate to and would remember every lyric and or rhythm... Today the industry is dead and over populated because music is basically free. It is hard to find good music and takes time but I assure you it exists if your not too quick to judge or write something off as "hipster". I will say the one thing I can't stand is the marketing of music I mean I have nothing against what the 60's did to music because some of the best stuff ever came out of that decade post and previous but right now it seems alot of the alternative and or pop music has some political cause to it because topics like sex, race and gay marriage seems to be to at the forefront. Everybody is milking the social issues in music these days as much as I love and understand how Folk and Blues music paved the way for that type of "music" id prefer something more abstract then preachy... like dylan when he went Electric

I don't hear Joan?

She was there just doing backup. Very nice version. The Simon and Garfunkel version is classic but without people doing new interpretations of songs, classical or popular more than half the music industry would be gone.

The secret of being very intelligent. Keep the mind active, plagiarize as much as possible and never consciously think about the process of thinking.

To be honest, sadly, I lack the true creative ability to be able to write meaningful or perfectly beautiful poetry!!! With my severe mental disorder, I am actually more limited in creative scope and freedom than most people!!! I do adore emotionally uplifting art in all it's forms, from The Beatles to Byron, from Colley Cibber to Shakespeare, from Ligeti to Strauss Junior, from Richard Dadd to Dennis Hopper and from Duran Duran to Richard Wagner. I adore and relish the thought of someone brilliantly gifted in art and indeed every other discipline, expressing their gift like a shining beacon against the darkness and alienation, or just the unbelieving of their talent, in the times they lived in!!!'The artist is Prometheus carrying a Godlike torch of fire, and for this reason is doomed to an eternity of torment!'Richard Wagner ( 1813 - 1883 )"He worse than I thought!"Wagner's psychiatrist.

How I'd love to make love in a vast, deep, lush and lovely field with a nice woman beneath the infinite canopy of the stars with this song playing in the background!!!!!!!!

Baez taking the sound of silence to extreme levels. Personally this is easily forgettable compared to Garfunkel & Simon ' s recording.

Dylan and Paul Simon singing The Sound of Silence. Half way through it, you won't even remember the original version. Great harmonica solo by Dylan.
