Babe, i'm gonna leave you

tell you when i'm gonna leave you

leave you when ol'summer time,

summer comes a-rolling

leave you when ol'summer comes along.

Babe, the highway is a-callin'

the old highway's a-callin'

callin'me to travel on, travel on out the Westward

callin'me to travel on alone.

Babe,I'd like to stay here

you know I'd really like to stay here

my feet start goin'down, goin'down the highway

my feet start goin'down, goin'down alone.

Babe, I got to ramble

you know I got to ramble

my feet start goin'down and I got to follow

my feet start goin'down, and I got to go.

Led Zeppelin did not pass this off as their original work - the sleeve notes clearly state it is traditional, and arranged by the band - this is a common practice, and certainly not plagiarism. Joan Baez is doing the same thing here, a very different interpretation. Both Joan and Led Zep are interpretive as a well as creative artists.

Arlo Guthrie opened for her at a river venue about 25 yrs ago, crowd almost never let arlo leave the stage. Finally she came out and a fan yelled Joe Hill. Someone else yelled Jack Daniels, another Jim Beam, another hollered Jim Walker, Ezra Brooks, Joe Blow well you get the picture. It was an Arlo crowd and she brought him back onstage to duet with her...keep ppl from walking. Just a bit of 80s trivia 4U.

Led Zeppelin were clearly not a "cover band" - that statement is silly ! Go check out how George Harrison was sued successfully for this biggest song ever - "My Sweet Lord" - it was the complete song, melody line, etc...from the song "He's So Fine" by the Chirelles ! He claims that he did not do it consciously - I don't know what he was thinking. "Yankee Doodle Dandy" - an "American" song was ripped off from a British song - the whole melody, etc...whole countries do it - come on...

To present extreme assessments here is Tom-foolery ! There are very few LZ songs that are completely "ripped" off. Robert Plant stole some lyrics from some old blues standards, Jimmy stole a few guitar riffs...that does not mean that LZ stole their entire catalogue from others. They have -from the beginning - credited artists when it was called for...Memphis Minnie, Willie Dixon...many blues songs by blues artist were done by Bob Dylan, CCR and many others without credit...The Beatles did it too

It's always interesting when the LZ bashers and the LZ fans get together. This version does not "suck" - nor does LZ's version - nor Ann Bredon's version. Most of you don't know anything about copyrights, nor traditional arrangements, nor how many songs come from folk traditions, word of mouth, story telling, work songs, etc...there are many blues songs by fantastic blues artist that those blue artists copyrighted - that were not written by them, etc...there are ton of rock bands who did this...

If it's time to move on for you dude then you move on but don't tell me to move or impose your own time limit on me....I don't care if it was 40 years ago or 4 days ago I'll comment about anything I feel like. And Zeppelin was far from incredible they were an overrated one dimensional cover band that ripped off music from others and pawned it off as their own...in a word Zeppelin sucked.

This is a 40 year old fuck-zeppelin circlejerk, Zeppelin were an incredible band but they ripped off some stuff without properly attributing it. In the end they were made to pay out to a lot of the original artists (See Jake Holmes). it's time to move on dude

But still, they are the greatest rock band of all time despite the plagiarism. And no, they are not overrated.

What difference does it make if it was 40 years ago...turns out that Zeppelin was just an overrated unoriginal glorified cover band and this is just one of many songs that they ripped off from other artists and pawned them off as their own original creation.

Dude chill, this was like 40 years ago go cook some rice or something

You got to be kidding. Ripping off another artists lyrics is no joke. I always thought that it was an originally created Zep tune, music and lyrics. I guess in court they did not see the joke since from 1990 it is has been credited to Anne Bredon/Jimmy Page & Robert Plant & Bredon has received a substantial back-payment in royalties. Zep did this with many songs, turns out they are just an overrated glorified cover band.

Zeppelin credited it jokingly to "Trad.. err Page", since the song, was initially credited to "Traditional", rather than Anne Bredon, common for a lot of folk songs. The only thing that is derivative is the lyrics, which were expanded and modified in Page's version.. The composition was written long before the song became a cover of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", written when Page was in the yardbirds, Page and Plant incorporated the lyrics after discovering their mutual love for the work of Baez.

Take a class in the history of Delta Blues. Out of 86-odd songs, Zeppelin borrowed on what 6? Find me a Kashmir, Achilles Last Stand, Song Remains, Rain Song, or a Ten Years Gone by someone else. Good luck with that. :)

You are so clueless it is hilarious, Zeppelin's version may have different chords but Zeppelin did not create this tune Anne Bredon did. It's no big thing to cover another person's song & make it your own. Hendrix did that to perfection with All Along The Watchtower by Dylan but he certainly did not pretend that he came up with the lyrics & music & that is what Zeppelin did, they pawned it off as their own creation on the album, an unoriginal rip-off cover band that stole other musicians work.

Dude as i fucking said, they have different compositions.. different chords, the Led Zeppelin version is not the song transposed in a different key, its a completely new song with derivative lyrics.. fuck.. You wouldn't call Stairway to Heaven the same song as Taurus even if it is derivative, the overall composition is vastly different.
