friggin hoops i had to jump through to write this.... Mr Hunter Lax, this song moved me so much I now have a hummingbird tatoo. I think it goes beyond killing a beautiful creature, it applies to landing a shot upon anything/ anybody you love and realizing how an aimed shot you hope wont land can kill/hurt/maim.... i killed a magpie once as a mercy killing, i will never forget that bird. Only animal ive ever killed.

I'm not sure if people really truly understand the meaning this song.when he was young he shot a hummingbird . Jj being from the bayou is very connected with nature and is very regretful of shooting the bird . The song explains the pain he still feels about that today . I.can understand because i.feel the same about a cardinal i shot as a kid . Even though there everywhere and are plentiful its the idea of out more or less cause there a very almost sacred bird
