This track was a UK No.1 for three weeks in 1960, it reached No.3 in the US. Jimmy Jones (b. 1937 Birmingham, Alabama) is still highly regarded as an influential character on modern music. His use of falsetto voice in R&B/pop directly influenced Del Shannon, who in turn influenced The Bee Gees disco orientated tracks. I remember when this record first came out. I was blown away by his voice. I was waiting to start secondary school and I was hanging out at the fair. This song was played almost constantly. I could never get enough of it. This was the only way that I could hear American music. There were no radio stations playing nationally or locally except for Radio Luxemburg at night but the reception was awful. I would not say that 1960 was the best year of my life but this record stands out against the inane dross that the UK singers were putting out.9 years ago
