Thank you for sharing this. Never heard this before and didn't know it existed. It's a shame that some of those must take it apart like it the news or politics. Until just now, I didn't know about this song either! It was so neat when there was a sequel to 'Big Bad John". However, I recall replies to "Wolverton Mountain", too. The girl and father from "Woverton Mountain" also had their say. I LOVE ballads, and the Fifties and Sixties were full of them. Remember Marty Robbins' cowboy stories? Others had hits with ballads, too, including Johnny Horton.

Awful song. In Cajun Queen big john is revived and the two live happily ever after. Now we find out he has a son who apparently was never told his dad survived and was living in new orleans? Why didn't big john seek out his son? Not to mention the song is pointless. Big John had a son who looked like him, son goes to mine where big john dies, son sees grave marker, son agrees his dad was big. What the fuck was the point? It's pretty much the same song, except nothing happens,
