Yes it is Dixie Howdown. I just stumbled across a CD I bought a lond time ago made in 1992 with Jessie playing 10 tunes. The CD was called Me And My Fiddle.

People may sometimes forget how great a musician Jesse was......guitar, fiddle and of course one of bluegrass' greatest mandolin players.

@TruegrassBoy: You were IN a jam with Jesse McReynolds and Bill Munroe? Playing an instrument?

Thanks for making this available for all generations. I remember hearing Jim & Jesse do this on one of those BG compilation albums in the early 60's.

Jesse was a good fiddler, but the demand for his cross picking on the mandolin gave him only rare opportunities to play the fiddle onstage. It was also much easier for him to sing with a mandolin in his hands. I was in a jam once and Bill Monroe was on mandolin and Jesse was playing fiddle. It wmay have been a one-of-a-kind jam as that never occurred again to my knowledge - where Jesse played fiddle with Bill.

The tune is "Dixie Hoedown" which I believe (but not sure) is a Jesse original.
