I'm probably one of the few listening to this due to The Walking Dead. Even like this original(?) version better, go figure.

The traditional folk song called "Shady Grove" as performed by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman on their album by the same name at # 3578, a deep album cut and "under the covers".

My kids are in a school where they have music every single day. Occasionally my oldest will come home asking me about a song, and quite often I haven't heard of it before. Yesterday, he asked about "Shady Grove", which I do happen to know. There are many, many versions of this song around (it dates to the 18th century). The incomparable Doc Watson had one version where he picked it out on banjo and another version where he played guitar with Dave Holt on the banjo. Both of these versions are top notch. But I think my favorite, just for the guitar picking alone, is the one attached here, with Jerry Garcia on guitar and David Grisman on mandolin. This version prompted me to pick up my guitar last night AND this morning, I wanted to play that badly.
