One of the most distinctive, masculine and appealing voices ever. Jerry Butler always sang with good taste and feeling to spare.

I just loved this song. What beautiful MUSIC we had in the 50's and 60's and even in the 40's the MUSIC was just that MUSIC! I don't know what this stuff they are trying to sing today is?

I was in the tenth grade at Franklin K. Lane High when this recording was released. They don't make music like this anymore. This was my era, a wonderful time.....

While on stage Jerry didn't flinch, he stood and just sang, the audience is talking and walking around while he's on stage, he did his show. The Ice Man. I saw first hand because I am from Chicago and traveled with him on tour, All he did was sing, and when there was a crowd and the press, he drew a line and no one was unruly or rude, and no one crossed the line. E. Rodney Jones from radio station W.V.O.N, gave him the name.

Back in the days of do-wop and the stage presentations, many of the singers and groups had elaborate dance routines, and would dance while singing the song . Jerry Butler stood still, stationary, and sang the ballad. He was so cool that the legendary DJ Georgie Woods of Phila. , at the Uptown Theater called him " The Iceman.

Bobbie, in response the question about why Jerry's nick name is the "Ice Man"; Before Jerry became famous for his singing, he was a really good artiest and made ice sculptures for special occasions like weddings and other private parties. Since "ice sculpting" is such a unique art form, I think the title just stuck with him...given to him by his friends from the "old days".

There was only one Jerry Butler, and he was the master of smooth. His voice just takes you away. And what a production! This extravaganza of strings and voices was so ahead of its time. It sounds like the early 70's with the sound of the Delfonics, Stylistics, etc. But it was a hit in late 1967, right when Dionne Warwick was making it big with I Say a Little Prayer.
