Wow-Garcia's phrasing is all over the map on this one! Not a criticism. Just interesting to hear an early performance by someone I've listened to for years. In his work with Old and In The Way his sense of timing is laser like but here it's like the music has no bar lines. I've always been fascinated by the Dead's ability to sound tight and loose at the same time: now I can see where that comes from. Any one else think he looks more like a riverboat gambler than a folk singer in this pic?
