Artist: Donovan

Album: Hurdy Gurdy Man (1968)

Lyrics: Jennifer Juniper lives upon the hill,

Jennifer Juniper, sitting very still.

Is she sleeping ? I don't think so.

Is she breathing ? Yes, very low.

Whatcha doing, Jennifer, my love ?

Jennifer Juniper, rides a dappled mare,

Jennifer Juniper, lilacs in her hair.

Is she dreaming ? Yes, I think so.

Is she pretty ? Yes, ever so.

Whatcha doing, Jennifer, my love ?

I'm thinking of what it would be like if she loved me.

You know just lately this happy song it came along

And I like to somehow try and tell you.

Jennifer Juniper, hair of golden flax.

Jennifer Juniper longs for what she lacks.

Do you like her ? Yes, I do, Sir.

Would you love her ? Yes, I would, Sir.

Whatcha doing Jennifer, my love ?

Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper.

Jennifer Juniper vit sur la colline,

Jennifer Juniper assise trs tranquille.

Dort-elle ? Je ne crois pas.

Respire-t-elle ? Oui, mais tout bas.

Qu'est-ce que tu fais, Jenny mon amour ?

Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper.

On this day in 1968 {March 19th} Donovan left for India to study transcendental meditation under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi...At that time in the U.S.A. his "Jennifer Juniper" was at #42 on Billboards' Hot Top 100 chart; four weeks later on April 14th, 1968 it peaked at #26 {for 2 weeks} and spent 9 weeks on the Top 100... Between 1965 and 1973 he had seventeen Top 100 records; four made the Top 10* with one reached #1, "Sunshine Superman" for one week in 1966...His next release, "Mellow Yellow", would reach #2 {for 3 weeks}, also in 1966...The three weeks "Mellow Yellow" was at #2; the #1 record for the first week was "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys, and for weeks 2 and 3 it was "Winchester Cathedral" by the New Vaudeville Band in the top spot...Donovan, born Donovan Philips Leitch, will celebrate his 69th birthday in two months on May 10th {2015}...* He just missed having a fifth Top 10 record when "There Is a Mountain" peaked at #11 in 1967...

This is a great classic. I love this song. I was born in the wrong time and wish I had been a teen in the 1960s.

The fact that this great song was released during the darkest days of the Vietnam War really amazes me!

Donovan has captured the delicate charm of all ladies. The romance oozes like juice from a fruit. It's especially appropriate for young, elementary school girls. Charming, fun, a bit coy ....... Wonderful! * Cav in OR *

Обичам това звучене, което те кара да се чувстваш така сякаш нямаш никакви проблеми (а ти си препълнен иначе с тях)! :)

'New Scandinavian Cooking with Claus Meyer' brought me here! He's in the Nordic countryside cooking with Juniper berries which made me think of this song! I was first turned onto this song by my mom- she named me Jennifer, too!

Sounded better on black vinyl. I had this drilled into my head by the radio as a young girl of about 8 years old. So much so that now when I hear or see the name Jennifer I start singing the song in my head The power of hooklines and brain washing lol.:O So I brought myself for a listen :D
