One of my BIG time faves from way back when. Still hits the spot each time. Another Larry Levan anthem.

@artmaccuinn Calm down...most never lived the true NYC underground, and aren't here to give you insights you'd never otherwise have. Watch documentaries like history of house and maestro and you'll have some understandings you and most don't have. It's a good thing to have depth!

@hardcorehouse no type of snob more irritating than the one who says "you weren't there so you can't understand" (+ not that it matters but the dude's right; Levan produced some great records but this one's just the mix). also to call Chicago house "more mainstream" is ridiculous. you're telling me Ron Hardy, "Acid Tracks", Larry Heard, Armando, the whole Warehouse scene were "mainstream", gimme a break...

@cestladope It's just that you were neither there nor sufficiently erudite after the fact to really understand it. That's ok, it was called underground (and the true basis for the more mainstream Chicago house that followed) for a reason. The masses never really had the context or depth, like you.

I know what overdubs are and I doubt that's the case here. There's a difference between mixing a record (which happens at a desk after it's recorded) and actually producing a record (making what gets recorded included takes that get used in remixes but not LP versions--words and music). I'm aware of the dub techniques employed in his mixes (Francois K as well) and to think not being within that scene at the time invalidates the point I made is ridiculous. see you at THE LOFT. make that connect.

@cestladope That's a good guess, but Levan (and other NYC innovators of the era) had a history of doing creative overdubs that were called remixes. The sound on that remix is right out of the Paradise Garage/Peech Boys sound, however those outside of that NY underground life of the time wouldn't likely make the connect.

@hardcorehouse Pretty sure Levan had nothing to do with actually producing this track. He did the mixes for the 12" but nothing more.

Huge Manchester record in '83/ '84. Absolutely rocked the floor! it's a shame Levan isn't credited on the label though!
