J. B. Lenoir (March 5, 1929 April 29, 1967)

Lyrics:

Lord why was I born in Mississippi,

when it's so hard to get ahead

Why was I born in Mississippi,

when it's so hard to get ahead

Every black child born in Mississippi

you know the poor child is born dead

When he came into the world

the doctor spank him, the black baby cry

When he came into the world

the doctor spank him, the black baby cry

Everybody thought he had a life

and that's why the black baby died

He will never speak his language

the poor baby will never speak his mind

Lord he will never speak his language

the poor baby will never speak his mind

The poor child will never know his mind

why in the world he's so poor

Lord why was I born in Mississippi

when it's so hard to get ahead

Lord why was I born in Mississippi

when it's so hard to get ahead

Every black child born in Mississippi

you know the poor child was born dead

The great JB! Thank Willie Dixon that he got to record his politically sensitive recordings like this one 'Alabama march' and 'Eisenhower Blues' and others.I'm happy that I have all of his known recordings.JB died in a car accident in 1967.

As of March 25 this year. I heard about bloody sunday from J.B. Lenoir. He grabbed me by the heart strings and shook me. Never have I heard a man sing with more passion and truth than this man. I have since taken a crash course on youtube of his songs. What an amazing performer. A guitar and a voice. That was all he needed.
