Over 500 tribes exist in the US alone, Jana has honored a few with these songs. She has my respect and admiration for her works and talents. I am Cherokee and have fought for preserve the people's rights and freedoms by serving this country, same as my grandfather has. The ignorance and arrogance still profounds me, I was even told I was extinct, told I'm in America I need to speak the language. sadly I see more respect from other countries than my own....we've been here, it's time to learn respect to ALL Nations and people.

This comment goes to Queen Static and anyone else that likes to spew out ignorant comments about the Lumbee Indians. I don't mind when people who have done their research and then question the authenticity of something. This does not sound Lumbee, I agree. However, the Lumbees do have their own dialect that is indeed distinct from their African American and Euro American neighbors. This dialect is an amalgamation of old Scottish and english and possible vestiges of other Native American tribes that resided in that area in the 1700's. And actually the first documented encounter with the Lumbee Indians was back in the 1700's. They have undergone several name changes and the language demonstrates their perseverance despite the challenges they have had to overcome. The reason for the Lumbees not being a federally recognized tribe has nothing to do with the authenticity of their tribe and it comes down to politics. They are the largest tribe east o the Mississippi. If they were to become federally recognized it would take federal money from other tribes. This is the United States. AT this day in age it is impossible to find anyone that is a full blood anything. But it is the songs, traditions, and family dynamics that distinguish cultures. And the Lumbees are just as Native American in that sense than any other federally recognized tribe.

Someone below said this is not a language and Lumbee tribe doesn't exist. Is that true or is that person just trolling?

I am a Christian...not because of what man has told me...but because through the years I've had dreams and visions. Jesus kept coming to me and show me things. I didn't realize until later that all the dream and visions were actually a Bible verse..."Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6. He shown me these things...one by one..and just recently I realized that Jesus was telling me He is the WORD OF GOD. He is the only way to salvation and He died so I could live. He is risen from the dead and because He lives I can face tomorrow. He has told me to declare that HE is the Word of God so that I am doing. I did not come up on this on my own...for I did not at first understand what I was witnessing until it was all complete....and then I realized it was Scripture. It was Jesus Himself who came to me. He loves you..repent and turn to Him for salvation for He is the only way! God loves you!

Shasa, I worked among and with Lumbee for several years and know something of the history. Don`t let Goverment refusal or peoples talk stop you from having a productive life. There are people out there who wait to post negative answers. I know that there was a Lumbee language in the late fifties because I have heard it spoken. Peace to you, sister,. Little Owl

Its pretty funny how "lumbee's" haven't ever had a language and won't... you can sing, but please stop making something out of nothing.... no tribe no language... so a good question when did the "lumbee's" start? what was the language or alphabet? if they even had one.... just stop making us look bad an like idiots because we're not........ theirs reasons why we didn't an still wont make up some tribe just to get views an people believing something that isn't real.... i'm sorry but ive got my indian card right beside me with my blood degree on it... where's yours?
