I remember being a starry-eyed sixteen-year-old Brockton High School student and seeing James Taylor in the gymnasium. He looked like Jesus Christ back then, what with his brown eyes and long dark hair. I like this version of the song.

It's been a rough year for me, full of ups and downs, and this version of the song seems to reflect both. I just need to keep muddling through, right?

I love this song. I love this man. I love that he sings the true lyric. Wishing all best to you and your families. Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays.

Mac, that's correct, they were co-composers. Blane wrote the music and Martin wrote the lyrics. The account I gave is from Martin's autobiography called "The Boy Next Door." (Martin grew up on the same street as I did in Birmingham, AL.) In his book, Martin said he was angry that he had heard that Blane tried to take credit for his lyrics. Sounds like a similar relationship as Lennon & McCartney.

I knew Ralph Blane who wrote the MUSIC to this song along with the rest of the musical "meet me in St Louis. I knew Mr. Blane who lived in Tulsa and was a very good friend of my employer. He died about 10 years ago in his 80's. Hugh Martin wrote the LYRICS, and I read on a Wickipedia article the same account you mentioned about Sinatra and others wanting the lyrics changed for one reason or another.

Some people should never sing Christmas songs. JT is one of them!

trvwatson, composer Hugh Martin wrote several sets of lyrics for this song. The original next to last line was "until then we'll have to muddle through" for the film Meet Me in St. Louis. Frank Sinatra didn't like the line, so Martin rewrote it for him to "hang a shining star upon the highest bow." Martin also wrote some religious lyrics and retitled it "Have Yourself A Blessed Little Christmas". I have also recorded it, check out my version if you have a chance.

This is THE absolute best version of this song, and to be honest, the only one I can tolerate. Every other version I have heard sounds way too depressing.

This is a beautiful rendition of the song. And for a lot of the people that have left comments, please, please learn to spell and/or punctuate.
