Beautiful soulful voice, great passionate performance, lovely melody and very approprite orchestration - this thing's got everything. And I had never heard of Carr before. Good grief!

Between James Carr & O.V Wright you have a wealth of soul that most people overlook... Sadly

The original, and IMHO, still the best version of this classic. Percy Sledge's version is great, The Afghan Whigs' cover and The Flying Burrito Brothers' version are good, etc. But for me, nothing tops James Carr's soulful voice on this one.

I once heard that a lot of Southern white guys thought this music was better than the Beatles. WTF could they have been thinking?

This cat does this song justice. Very good vocal with feeling. Two ingredients that many artists do not have these days.
