(The music starts and then there are a few seconds of blank screen at the beginning before the video starts)

This is the title track from his '83 album Lawyers in Love.

Sadly, someone else on YouTube had posted this video with a "different" audio track. I took that video and matched it back up with the single cut of the song. I hope Jackson Browne fans (like myself) will enjoy watching the video with the actual music as it was intended!

Back in 1984, I went to the USSR on a trip with about 20 other lawyers to learn about the Soviet local legal system. I vividly recall playing this song as our Finnair flight touched down in Moscow. I had no idea what to expect. What to expect was to have all of our luggage ripped open and its contents strewn all over, with one person's Bible being confiscated. Things got better as we got farther from Moscow, even though we were fortunate enough to be there the next day for the May 8 celebration of the end of "The Great Patriotic War" (WW II to us). Leningrad was unbelievably beautiful, as, in fact, was Moscow once we got through customs! Ordinary people were friendly everywhere. We also went to Kiev, then the capital of the province of The Ukraine (now, as a country, just "Ukraine."). Since Kiev is the birthplace of the Russian state ("Kiev Rus"), I can see vey well see why Putin wants at least part of it back. Imagine the U.S. losing California, e.g. None of the current uproar would have occurred if the drunken fool Yeltsin hadn't let The Ukraine go. Of course, the U.S. LOVED Yeltstin, since he was such a bumbler and fool we had free reign to do whatever we wanted as Russia crumbled. We don't like Putin because he won't kow-tow to the American Empire, but you'll never read that in our press. You also won't read about how much relative freedom there is in Russia under Putin. Especially hypocritical is Germany's now SO-phony concern for the "country" of Ukraine, after it slaughtered over eight million people in The Ukraine in WW II.

Just heard Kings of Leon's Sex on Fire and it reminded me of this song. Both very good songs.

Why has this song become so overlooked and forgotten now? It's gotta be one of the catchiest 80s songs ever made! I don't know how popular it was then, but I remember it on family mixtapes in the 90s, so it's part of the soundtrack of MY childhood for sure!

What does the song mean, exactly?

I remember watching this video on HBO at my babysitter's in the early '80s (yes people, they played music videos back then, they had to show something in between movies, after all).

I was 19 and loved my designer jeans! (and looked good in them back then)...and we could blame everything on the Commies!..(miss them)...I was antithetical to the "hippie" questioning thing..didn't get then that this was a critique of the US!..but still for all it's faults ..would rather have grown up in the US than the USSR

Remarkable! I loved how Jackson his that high note at 2:00. How could we not see it as being among his best work ever? He just knew how to blend with the 1980s.

I really loved this song when I was a kid. Still do. No one would have guessed the U.S.S.R. would cease to exist in under ten years back then...

And this song is a good example of why you don't mix rock with pop! :-(

Damn good song. Breathtakingly boring video. To my knowledge, it's still the only Billboard Top 40 hit that mentions the law profession in its title.

Although the dance moves and the video itself should be improved, there is no doubt that this is a very beautiful song. Yet, I still don't understand what "lawyers in love" means.
