When Ronnie Hinson and the Hinson's introduced "The Lighthouse," every gospel group wanted to sing it and record it, and most of them did. The Happy Goodmans took it on like it was there own composition and made it a nightly staple of their repertoire. It gained so much notoriety during the early '70's that it became one of the most popular gospel songs of all time. But, no one had really elavated the song into new heights, no one had really sung it, until the Stamps did it. A little know thing about this song and the Stamps is that when they were touring with Elvis, and he would be unwinding into the wee hours of the morning following a concert, Elvis would ask them again and again to sing this song. He would close his eyes as they sang and sing along. Then he would pound upon the grand piano they had gathered around and say, "sing it again!" Elvis was not only a fan of good singing and harmony, and of southern gospel quartet singing, but he was incredibly moved by the words and delivery of this song. See if this song doesn't do the same thing for you! Here is J.D. Sumner and his Stamps Quartet singing for you: "The Lighthouse." Enjoy and be blessed.

"The Lighthouse" was written by Ronnie Hinson and first performed by his family group, "The Hinsons." Ronnie had the artists' foresight yo know that his song would reach more peopke and even top the Gospel Music charts if a very popular group were given the opportunity to perform it before large audiences. After sending it to legendary J.D .Sumner who recognized the song's potential, he chose to record it and perform it live. His nephew, Donnie Sumner was singing lead with "The Stamps" at the time. Their performance did "catch the bullet" and put "The Lighthouse" on top of Southern Gospel Music charts as well as Sacred Music charts. It soon gained tge attention of an "upstart" performer and producer, Bill Gaither. The rest is history! (Note: Donnie Sumner was actually Baritone for The Stamps. J. D.'s son-in-law, Ed Enoch was Lead singer. It was Ed Enoch and Sean "Sherrill" Neilson who "overdubbed" very high notes on Elvis' recordings. Elvis recognized each of The Stamps as well as the stated fact above during his last live televised concert in 1977.I was honored to have known the great J.D. Sumner most of my life. I will always mourn his passing, but Thank God for having known him as a friend. I miss him always, especially that deep, rumbling voice on my phone, calling to check on my daughter and me. He was very special to many, but to "his family," he was a "force of nature!" My close friends and I were proud that he saved the front row for us at concerts and referred to us as his "Stampettes!" Never doubt God's love and presence in your life! Always be grateful, and ALWAYS say "I Love You" to those who are special in your life.God Bless You All!

I'm struggling through college right now, but I know I can turn it all over to Jesus and he'll guide me onward. If you are struggling with anything in your life, turn it over to him. God spoke the universe into existence; do you think he can't handle your struggles?

V O and Frank Stamps are in my family tree. I remember listening to The Stamps Quartet a lot while growing up. I also remember going to see them at one of the local churches when I was in my teens. I remember seeing JD Sumner there. He passed away in 1998. Bless his soul. Praise the LORD JESUS! HE is KING! HE is coming very soon!

I painted a 25 foot x6 foot mural in a restaurant because of this song. Praise God. It was done in 3 days, like He raised the temple. He told me. Hit the newspaper. Haleluagh
