Damien Dempsey leads 'Go to Sea No More' with other Irish Sea Sessions members at the Irish Sea Sessions 2011.

With the atmosphere and attitude of a session, but in a concert hall, The Irish Sea Sessions 2011 returned to build on the success of last year's event - one reviewer gave it 15 out of 10!

Part super-group, part colossal session and part festival, all in a single gig, the Irish Sea Sessions was voted Best Folk/Roots Event of the Year by Liverpool Daily Post readers in 2010.

This 2011 line up included top contemporary music stars and some of the finest traditional musicians from Liverpool and Ireland.

Under the musical direction of Bernard O'Neil (Syriana, Quicksilver, Sinead O'Connor, June Tabor) the line up included singers Damien Dempsey, Alan Burke, Niamh Parsons, Jennifer John and Ian Prowse alongside Gino Lupari on bodhran Terry Clarke Coyne on flutes and whistles, button accordionist, Dave Munnelly, piper John McSherry, fiddler Meabh O'Hare, guitarist Graham Dunne, banjo-player Stevie Dunne and sean-nós dancer Mary McGuiggan.

The Irish Sea Sessions 2012 are now on sale, featuring 14 hand-picked multi-instrumentalists and singers drawn from traditional and contemporary music backgrounds, and from both sides of the Irish Sea. Visit www.liverpoolphil.com/irishseasessions2012 for more information.

Great SongLyrics :When first I landed in Liverpool, I went upon a spreeMe money alas I spent it fast, I got drunk as drunk could beAnd when that me money was all gone, it was then I wanted moreBut a man must be blind to make up his mind to go to sea once moreOnce more, boys, once more, go to sea once moreBut a man must be blind for to make up his mind to go to sea once moreI spent the night with Angeline too drunk to roll in bedMe watch was new and me money too, in the morning with them she had fledAnd as I walked the streets about, the whores they all did callThere goes Jack Strapp, the poor sailorlad, he must go to sea once moreOnce more, boys, once more, go to sea once moreThere goes Jack Spratt, the poor sailorlad, he must go to sea once moreAnd as I walked the streets about, I met with the Rapper BrownI asked him for to take me on and he looked at me with a frownHe said last time you was paid off with me you could not scoreBut I'll give you a chance and I'll take your advance and I'll send you to sea once moreOnce more, boys, once more, send you to sea once moreI'll give you a chance and I'll take your advance and send you to sea once moreHe shipped me on board of a whaling ship bound for the arctic seasWhere the cold winds blow through the frost and snow and Jamaica rum It would freezeBut worse to bear, I'd no weather gear for I'd spent all money on shore'twas then that I wished that I was dead and could go to sea no moreNo more, boys, no more, go to sea no more'twas then that I wished that I was dead and could go to sea no moreSo come all you bold seafaring men, who listen to me songWhen you come off those long lonely trips, I'll bid you to do no wrongTake my advice, drink no strong drink, don't be sleeping with those whoresGet married instead and spend all night in bed and go to sea no moreNo more, boys, no more, go to sea no moreGet married instead and spend all night in bed and go to sea no more

One of my favorite songs of all time, thanks for giving me something else to listen to than the songs they play on the radio.

That was one breathtaking performance! I guess it would've sounded great even without the accompaniment.

Great individual performance. These songs were concieved to pass information among the people who had no internet telly or newspapers. As such need to be passed from performer to performer in order to fulfill the aim of it all. Pass it on!!!
