This 1974 rock ballad created by the famous English hard rock band Deep Purple was released on their "Stormbringer" album. This is one of the most known Deep Purple songs, a song that became immediately a smash hit in UK and then in the rest of the world. "Soldier of Fortune" was covered by the Romanian hard rock band Iris in 1997, at their "Tribute to Deep Purple" show and then in 2000, at "Iris Athenaeum" concert - the first symphonic rock concert held in Romania. The "Iris Athenaeum" version of this song is a very interesting one, with only two performers: Cristi Minculescu (vocals) and the great jazz musician Johnny Răducanu (piano). Here we have a video with Iris playing live "Soldier of Fortune" at "Tribute to Deep Purple" concert. At this tributary show Iris played many Deep Purple songs, such as "Mistreated", "Black Night", "Lady Double Dealer", "Smoke on the Water", "Strange Kind of Woman", "You Keep on Movin'", "Might Just Take Your Love". Minculescu said in an interview that Purple's vocalists Ian Gillan and David Coverdale are two of his personal favourite vocalists.
