wow - i haven't heard this in a while….i forgot how emily wore those overalls on all the appearances and videos back then….reminds me of the 1970s version of Godspell - wasn't Jesus in overalls in that too?

Who's that guy on the clarinet?! I first heard this song, and then saw them perform it live, in 1989. That was 25 years ago. It's official - they, I, and this song are all antique. I feel old.

It's so annoying you can no longer just search Strange Fire to pull up this song. How all that biblical crap comes up first is beyond me.

The love that they emit, from the inside out, feels like a miracle to behold.

I love the way her spirit and energy unfold throughout the song.... She inhabits her songs and reveals her exquisite heart.... and I unwind.

It was on the Epic release "Strange Fire" which was released in 1990 or so, after the success of self-titled album. It should be available for download on iTunes or somewhere like that. There is also a live version (with Sara Lee, Jerry Marotta and perhaps Jane Scarpantoni and Scarlet Rivera) on the double album 1200 Curfews. The original album version is simply Amy and Emily.

Why I love the Indigo Girls, taking it all the way back. I have never heard or read a more concise, apt description of how a potentially wonderful faith got perverted by greed:Mercenaries of the shrine, who are you to speak for God?With haughty eyes and lying tonguesand hands that shed innocent blood.Who delivered you the powerto interpret Calvary? You gamble away our freedomto gain your own authority.

I was in college radio in the late 80's - early 90's and got to see these two go from local ingenues to national fame. I have always loved these two, and each is as nice as they are talented!

This song is the best. The lyrics tell a story about my being, The power of fire in my inner soul, the freedom I have, the adventures of life I had and continue to experience, The words "When you learn to love yourself, you will dissolve all the stones that are cast" changed me forever, to a better person. this song has a great impact on my being.
