This song was my first girlfriend's and mine "song". I loved her for a long time after we broke up, but we're good friends now. I like the Dire Straits original, but the Indigo Girls blow it out of the water.

Dire Straits' cover inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet

One of my very favorite Indigo Girls songs. They have done some AMAZING covers - my very favorite being the live version of "Midnight Train to Georgia" off the 1,000 Curfews album. But back to this song - it's one of the songs that made me fall in love with them for life back in the 90's. SO GOOD

The modern saying, from bloody X factor "you made that song your own" should come with a prison sentence. This is a good cover, but that's it.

Never has a cover so fully shredded the original since Jimi Hendrix did All along the Watchtower.....(That means I think it's an awesome performance for those who don't get the reference)....

I came to love this song from the Indigo Girls album. It was much later a friend told me it was a Dire Straights original. I like Dire Straights orignal song, I think the instrumentation by Dire Straights is better, but the singing on Indigo Girl's versions, is more emotional, and touches me very deeply. Her voice soars, and an reminds me of my own lost love affairs.

agreed. great songwriting on dire straits part, but amy elevated the feel of it doing it this way.

Perfection!! This and Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah" are examples of covers that transcend the originals....goosebumps!
