Still one of the greatest songs of all times.

Wow. So cool. Back in '89 (I think) I went to a Violent Femmes show (the Boathouse in Norfolk, VA) and the Indigo Girls were the opening band. I'm not typically into this kind of stuff, nor would I guess is the typical Violent Femmes fan, but these ladies completely blew us away.

This Letterman episode was my introduction to the Indigo Girls. Immediately loved them and have got every album ever since and have rarely been disappointed. Always great lyrics and harmonies. Thanks for posting this.

@3:40 when Amy taps her heart and points to the Universe and sings "closer I am to fine" .......my god , can anyone be more authentic behind her words?I am so blessed to have these women in life's musical background growing up (which, I still am)Blessed be.

Yeah I did notice her pants too - but she's definitely always had that 'earthy' look! It's all a part of her 'schtick' (sp). Just about every performer has one. :)

I hope they made enough money from that network television appearance that the brunette could buy a new pair of pants. LOL

This is a prime example of an ENFP who can hardly contain herself, and an INFJ who is entirely contained. And probably thinking "get the hell out of my space bitch."

They had me hooked the first time I heard this track and the rest of the CD that followed. I own everything they've ever put out.

I've seen them perform this song live as part of Lilith Fair but never saw this version till now. This Letterman version is awesome. Love the Indigo Girls. I agree, most new acts don't get to sit with Dave. Glad he had them on, even just for a few minutes.

Letterman was fine, TV has 6-7 minute segments, they did their song and had a brief chat with the host, they had to cut to commercial and then the show was over. Fuck*ng relax, they were a brand new band, this was HUGE for them and I'm sure they were fine with the entire thing. They were asked back several times.

This was the moment I fell in love with Emily, Amy and their music. And I'm still loving them. This song always gets me in a better place.

Excellent. I have heard this song too many times to count. But it is great to see it performed live at its time of release.I especially like the first 2 or 3 of their records, when it was morebased on acoustic duo and harmonies. As far as Letterman goes, it would have been nice if he knew which one was which and had their last names! But you can't knock him for not asking meaningful questions. All he really had time for was to ask them about their hometown, and to mention they were on tour with REM and VFs.
