PRESENTED BY ANDRÉ SANTOS
Project Imidiwan was born in a voyage. In fall 2010, one of its members, travelled to Western Africa, being Timbuctu, North Mali, his final destiny.
For two months, Xina (synths e sampling) lived in the so called “door of Sahara”, and the people he met, mainly in the Tamashek community, woke up in him the will of wanting to share Mali’s cultural richness. In Timbuctu, he recorded numerous soundscapes, local radios, popular events, spontaneous musical performances, but he also came across music myths as Tinariwen, Bassekou Kouyaté e Khaira Harby. This legacy was the source of inspiration that enabled Gustavo (bass and effects) and Salsa (drums) to mix in their influences, which would ultimately give birth to Imidiwan.
Imidiwan – “companions”, in Tamashek language – blends the musical universe of Mali with dub and electronic music.
The 17th January 2012 will be remembered throughout History as a day of conflicts between Tuaregs and Mali’s army, leading to a massive exodus of people into neighbor countries. The present EP is a tribute to all refugees.
