Ahh! This is john's ricky over dubbed with an organ. But only comes in at certain times. Like at "i think you'll understand" it sounds like somebody, possibly george martin slamming on a hammond organ and ever so slightly dubbed it in with john's rickenbacker.

Was any audio forensics used in processing this track?

This sounds like a weaker, Compressed Rick.

someone needs to prove to me where this came from. to me I`m hearing phase cancellation. that can be from filtering or one of those voice cancellation effects. I hope I`m wrong....

The echo was the studio walls. It was recorded in Studio 1, the huge studio. The band would set up in a corner and turn their amps up real loud so it (and Ringo's drums) would reverberate off the walls. If any further echo was needed, it'd be added while mixing. Compressors were used a lot in those days due to the dynamic limits of vinyl, especially on vocals. Found this out while reading Geoff Emerick's book. It's a great read. Do seek it out.

It's from the Beatles Rock Band stems, prepared from the multitracks at Abbey Road Studios.

How did you do this? It is great because I wanted to really hear the effect on John's guitar ....I mimicked the sound by using two same tracks and de-phasing one of the some micro secs .... which is the same as controlled echo ....which is what they had to use in those days ...

The echo is genius right there ....it gives the signature rhythm for the song ... I don't know if by 1963 there was so much compression technology ....good to find out ... What do you hear in this track to make you think it's compressed?

No there isn't. Maybe it sound's like that because of John's rough way of playing the rhythm part :P

Love that barking junkyard dog guitar.

This proves that there is no slide-up during the intro.

These are in no way taken from the orginal multitracks. Rather one of those vocal remover settings found in Nero or something like it, and man it really sounds it.

@Seej1982 But the question is: is it the 325 or the j-160 ?? For me its really looking like the 325 with a little something else, what i don't know but there is something else than just the 325 heavily compressed. What do you think ???

@DART196969 Everyone played together for the rhythm track in these days. Planning had to be done as to what would be recorded on the 4 tracks before anything was recorded. Most likely, the band was recorded like this: Drums, bass, and John's heavily compressed guitar on track 1, George's lead on track 2 and Vocals on tracks 3 & 4 (Track 4 being double tracked vocals and handclaps). Echo was added while mixing the song for release in mono and stereo.

@BeatlesGeorgeJohn I really don't think so. For me, it's looking like a heavily compressed and overdubbed 325. Remember it was the first track to be recorded on a 4 track , maybe they overdub the rythmn guitar.

I heard that George Martin overdubbed an organ with the bottom two notes of John's chord on this song. I have no idea if this is true though.....
