It was a great musical performance but the message that HB sent was full of hate. It was relying on negative stereotypes of the male to justify its venom. The violence that happened after this performance was suppose to be acceptable. In fact it typified the extreme actions of the dreadful male on female violence. I don't see how that is productive.

Still got the issue of Melody Maker which made a cover feature out of this performance. Absolutely loved Huggy Bear - anyone know what its members are up to these days?

the troubled youth! the only time they appeared to the mass media and the message was clear: this is the sound of a revolution-boy girl revolution

@peteringhampi5 and @fractalign-- Your comments "this is living proof the the nineties were indeed better than the eighties!" and "It's proof that the sixties were better than the eighties. #fractalign" proves what an ignorant assholes you are. Let's start with this happened in the 1990s, not the 1980s. And your snobby Baby Boomer bullshit just shows that you don't have a clue what was going on -- you were simply too full of yourself to even pay attention. In part, it was that sort of assholery that we rebelled against.

I never saw this episode of The Word. What was the sexist segment you mention? Which host did they jeer?

One of the most original and interesting bands. I bought OTY and loved every track!

This is not the whole video! Ch4 and The Word probably don't want you to know that Huggy Bear came back out to jeer the (awful) host and the (awful) sexist segment that directly followed their performance. Pandemonium broke out, and the female members of the band had to be forcibly removed from the studio. Huggy Bear was important not so much for their music, but for the fact that they lived their message every single second of every single day - even whilst on national TV.

Tell your aunt how fucking awesome I think her band was. I'm from India and I got into riot grrrl music when I was about 15 (I'm 22 now) and this was one of my favourite songs and helped get me interested in feminism. Loved the boy/girl revolutionaries thing. The lyrics are brilliant.
