The backing track has no original lead guitar parts on it.

This is the performance section of an electric guitar lesson on how to play the guitar solo parts to "Hotel California" by The Eagles. One of the greatest rock guitar solos of all time, it's extremely well written and played by Don Felder and Joe Walsh. It's a great lesson on how to use chord tones in your leads, something that all the great guitarists do. It's also an excellent solo to learn for bending and vibrato. If you don't have your bends in pitch and your vibrato right on the money, you're going to sound like a dying cat on this solo!

The harmonized arpeggios at the end are also a really great thing to learn as it will open up the neck for a lot of players and help them to see the relationships of the chord shapes and the arpeggios.

It's in 3 parts all together, the performance is the 1st video, then part 1 and part 2. I've put annotations in them so you can navigate around the 3 videos easier. Good luck with it, it's not overly fast, but to play it well with, in tune bends, even vibrato and with feel will take a while.

I hope you enjoy the lesson.

I get a lot of questions about my sound so here's what I'm using:

My amp is an Egnater Renegade head through a Marshall 1960b cabinet. I use a TC Electronics Nova System through the loop for effects. On almost all songs I just use a digital delay, roughly 400ms, but some stuff I use tap tempo to set the delay. I also use a BB preamp on some lead tones and sometimes (rarely) a Boss CS-3 compressor. The reverb is from the amp. My wah is a Dunlop MC404 CAE Dual Inductor, REALLY great pedal! I also use a Polytune tuner which is fantastic.

My guitar is a 1975 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. I have Suhr Aldrich pickups on it. I have them coil split, and for this video they were in single coil mode.

I use Elixir strings, 10-46 with the nanoweb coating. I can't believe how long they last and they sound decent too.

Folks may be surprised at how much time and effort goes into creating these videos. If you're getting something out of the lessons and can afford to contribute, I've setup a Paypal link. If you can't afford it no worries, but if you can, any amount is appreciated and will help me to continue to make the videos.

cheers everyone

I am in doubt if you are TRULY PLAYING THE ENDING CHORUS LEAD . I tries to do the same with my FENDER STRATO CASTER AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO PRODUCE THE SAME NOTE(sound) using FRETS 7,8,and 9 (That's for B Minor high fret strumming). Not possible since the sound of the strings are TOO LOW unless you use Frets 14 to 16 at the start of the LEAD.

I'm a huge fan of your videos and Hotel California is one of my all time favorites, so this is a real treat. I know you use the BB pedal on many (most?) of your videos...do you recall your settings here?
