the lyrics to this kill me every time… "dear elizabeth and liz..." ska or not, this might be their best album.

The Aquabats were never about being a good "ska" band anyway, they are about sounding good in general and making funny/wacky songs, and they do a damn good job at it.

Actually I think they do still include some ska sounds in their music, just not so much the horns. The horn section is not the only thing that defines ska. And I mean it's not like they did what Suburban Legends did where they weren't ska for a bit and their songs were bad at the same time. But yeah, good music is good music, I agree.

I didn't mean to insinuate that you were being rude. I figured I described it poorly, because I don't know the technical bits too well. I wanted to have a better description for later use, and I figured getting help from someone more knowledgeable than me would be a good thing to do. I need to learn music theory so I can get the technical side of genres down and explain them more concisely. Thank you for providing a more clear description, by the way.

I'm sorry if I sounded rude; your definition is better than most other people who'd just say "punk with horns". It's just that, rhythmically, ska is very dissimilar to swing, and "rock + jazz" is somewhat misleading even in it's broadest sense. If I had to describe it concisely, I'd say it's an uptempo reggae. Depends on the band: some mix it with punk, some mix it with jazz, but the rhythm is always what exclusively defines it.

I don't know too much about music, just rough approximation of the styles. Could you explain ska to me more concisely? I've heard plenty, I just don't know how to describe it well.

Wow, that's astoundingly inaccurate but I admire your tenacity nevertheless.

Reel Big Fish or The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Think between rock and jazz. Some ska bands are closer to swing, some closer to punk rock. Quite a diverse genre, from a Take On Me remix by Reel Big Fish to the silly stuff of The Aquabats! to the dark stuff made by Streetlight Manifesto. Quite interesting. This is still a great song it just isn't ska, which is a bit ridiculous to bitch about.

No mater what the style, the Aquabats make me happy, and remind me of those care free punk rock days of my past. Old punkers never die they just get wrinkly

Gotta love how the Aquabats know how to shed the dull world and put a smile on your face EVERY TIME. Easily my favorite Aquabats song. Brilliant.
