albert 2, was running out of characters, but wot i meant was edmond played the albert system clarinet, which has been surpassed by the boem system which is what is played now by everyone. edmond is/was a genius, on an antiquated instrument, & to my mind, that's where acker followed. ps, from auckland. please check out any edmond hall tunes cos he's always supurb. louis armstrong used him, but thawrted him, but the real star was edmond hall in my books,& when you hear edmond on his own u no wotim

sorry guy's heard em all, love benny, buddy, pete, hubert rostaing with django (swing 41/2), acker, etc, etc, but you've all forgotten about or never knew the greatest of all; EDMOND HALL if you don't believe me try "you made me love you" in buenos aries,or any by edmond will blow u away, i've played clary & sax for 40 yrs, & i also forgot ken peplowski, but no-one got da grunt & soul of this beautiful guy (with a music degree to boot) was way out of louis's class. this guy was a geniusalbert 2.

@jazzgent I can agree to that, but I still prefer the "Swing Era" and "Stride" piano....I also play the piano, so you can see why I am so in love with this kind of music...Have you seen the great TV tribute to Benny Goodman that Eddie Daniels performed about 5 years ago? If not I could send you a DVD copy of it.....

@jazzgent First of all, I am a non-professional jazz clarinetist and white...I have listened to Eddy Daniels play and he no Benny Goodman....Benny was able to turn a song into a swing piece of music better than anyone....I prefer Benny Goodman to Buster Bailey as far as their music is concerned.....And Benny did not need the technique that Buster had in order to play the music that Benny played....

@jazzgent I just told you in my last comment to you which CD recording and piece of Buster Bailey proves his superiority over both Goodman and DeFranco, and even Daniels....Buster was determined to put the record straight in the 1940's, so he recorded the piece, "MAN WITH A HORN GOES BERSERK." Just listen for yourself and you cannot fail to draw the obvious conclusion!

@jazzgent I am aware of that. I was referring to to their virtuosity...However, Buster Bailey, who was taught by the same teacher who taught Benny Goodman, was technically better than DeFranco and Goodman, and Goodman even admitted that. Just listen to Bailey play: "Man with a horn goes berserk," on his CD called: "Buster Bailey Story," released by Jazz Archives #118

I am aware of that...I was referring to both of their mastery of their instruments.
