Piano Instrumental Transcribed & Played by David Castagna. Please read the writing by author Ross Muir below.
'Home at Last' is not a Steve Perry 2005/ 2006 demo as many seem to think.
It is, in fact, a 1993 demo, considered for FTLOSM but never used (a number of 1993/ 1994 demos and completed sessions exist, but they have never, officially, surfaced).
This particular number is one of two songs that came from writing sessions with renowned rock guitarist Dick Wagner -- the other song, 'Touch Tonight,' has never surfaced in any shape of form as far as I am aware.
A few years ago Dick Wagner released a rarities and demos compilation entitled Home At Last, but the title track was a re-recorded version, with a different singer.
The difference between the two versions is quite noticeable, especially in 'depth' of vocal.
Perry's voice could make relatively simple songs soar and good songs great, but that wasn't just down to his vocal -- it had just as much to do with his musical intelligence and an inherent sense of melody.
David Castagna has, once again, managed to capture that "sense of melody."
This time in a beautifully transcribed, instrumental interpretation of 'Home at Last,' based on the original demo.
