Davy Jones dances to "Daddy's Song."

The woman Jones dances with is Toni Basil of the "Mickey" fame. Basil choreographed this and other dance sequences in Head (1968; dir. Bob Rafelson).

This video was excerpted from the Criterion Collection's 2010 Blu-ray remaster release of BBS Production films entitled "America Lost and Found: The BBS Story."

Contemplate the fact that they had no computers when this was made. Davy Jones would have had to shoot this sequence at least twice, and hit every single move perfectly for it to work. Incredible talent.

Alot of us 50-something's remember Tony Basil for her "Mickey" video she did in the early 80's at the start of the MTV era (first cherographed dance video EVER...everybody copied her after that), as well as choreographing a number of other early MTV video's of that era for other groups, but it seems she got around quite a bit in the 60's, too. Not only was she in Head for this dance sequence with Davey Jones, I'm pretty sure she was in "Easy Rider" too, if memory serves. Maybe American grafitti. Here's why I'm feelin' old...I just found out she's 71!!! Ugh.....not that far behind. Time sure goes by fast!

love this version for the movie, but if I had to choose solely on just the song itself, between Davy's version that got used in the movie and Mike's unreleased version, I'd have to go with Mike's

Tony Basil looked almost unrecognizable in her Hey Mickey video compared to this.

I always thought Davy had the soul of a British music hall performer.

Love this so much!! The best part of the movie in my opinion!! Davy had to rehearse 10 extra days to get this dance sequence down just the way he wanted it!

Watching this only reinforces what a terrible shame it was that the Monkees were so quickly dismissed as a manufactured novelty act.
