I've always respected him as an actor and a singer until he became a judge on American Idol.... I think he is entirely too ridiculous when it comes to critiquing the contestants on American Idol when he can barely get through a live performance singing one of his own songs that he wrote without sounding like an amateur himself.... I was appalled by his performance as I couldn't believe that people were even clapping for him!!!!

Whenever I can get Harry Connick Jr. into the broadcast, he's in! Love his style with the old fashioned songs, because it's evident that he has so much respect for these melodies and lyrics. I think it's funny that Harry has this notorious reputation, on "American Idol", for over analyzing a performance. EXACTLY! He knows his music, and that's why, in particular, his arrangements are so him! Fields later remarked, that she so was touched by melodies emotionally, and this is one of them:"The first time Jerry played that melody for me I went out and started to cry. The release absolutely killed me. I couldn't stop, it was so beautiful." If Harry Connick had been famous, say during the 40's or 50's, he would have had his own variety show. I know that he does have a new album out, and I can't wait to listen! The song was written for a Fred Astaire movie entitled "Swing Time" and as always Fred was given the great songs to sing, because all ,and I mean all of the composers knew that he would do their compositions justice. When Mel Torme was planning a tribute album to Fred Astaire, Astaire just didn't get it. he didn't consider himself a singer. I think the quote from the last YT , when Fred Ebb talks of Dorothy's feminine quality in her lyrics , it is no more apparent than in this song, which will be remembered as long as their are singers of songs! Kern was lucky to have Dorothy write this lyric because I think Ebb was right. From an emotional standpoint, I don't think a man could have writen this lyric in this specific way of pure transcendental Love. We'll be back.
