*Day 12 Hawaiian, Caribbean, Calypso, or Reggae Music**Harry Belafonte* (Harold George Belafonte) was born in Harlem, and lived with his grandmother in Jamaica from 1932 -1940. Served in WWII, then began an acting career along with Sidney Poitier. Worked as a pop singer on the side to pay for his acting classes but became interested in folk music leading to Jamaican music. His first single was *Matilda* recorded in 1953, then the album *Calypso* in 1956. From there he went on to be called the King of Calypso. The version of *Matilda* is one of many on YouTube.I recall his career in the 1950's and 1960's both music and movies. He was very popular at the time.#14daysofmusicchallenge #HarryBelafonte #calypsomusic
