Jesus was 33 years old when he died on the cross. The year was 33 A.D. Guess that kind of explains who is right and who is wrong. You can count that on your fingers too, if you like. 1970 was the first year of the 1970's.

Seventies began January 1, 1970. Your logic applies to milleneums, not decades. Free tip....numbers start at 0. 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. If you paid attention in school, you would have already known this. I won't go into who is embarassed, or the sad fact that you're probably not, because you don't know any better. Your sack of stupid on your back is growing larger by the minute.

@LT1HILLINGHOE - How embarrasing it'll be to have made your ignorant comment public! The problem (for the ignorant masses) is that the FIRST year is year ONE, not the year ZERO. I'll make it simple for your limited mind. On your fingers, count the years of the FIRST "decade", starting with year one. The FIRST decade ENDED with 10. The SECOND decade BEGAN with the year ELEVEN! And so, the (Nineteen) Sixties ENDED on December 31, 1970! The (Nineteen) Seventies BEGAN January 1, 1971!
