actually that's pretty easy. something tells me you're not using the right fingerings. play G7 as 10-10-9-10-x-x (bar the first two strings with your middle finger) , then just slide down until A7 as 5-4-5-6-x-x, then slide right to D7 as 5-5-4-5-x-x, then slide again right to G (actually G6/9) as x-5-5-4-5-5 (bar with the middle and ring finger). You've barely changed the shape at all, it's all the same triangle.

you should be able to just find the right chord shape and barre it moving down one or two frets at a time maintaining that chord shape

You can map out arpeggios, and link scales and such, but an easy way to approach playing over something like that in the beggining is to use a lot of chromatics. It's a chromatic chord progression anyway, so running chromatic ideas, as well as being easy, makes sense.
