Though most have never heard of him, he puts many guitarists to shame. This is an instrumental ~~

This song reminds me of his solo album Rising Force, timeless and untouchable!

Alright, I just can't find an interview with Yngwie being an egotistical prick.Seriously, I've scoured the internet and guitar magazines and he always comes across as a nice guy.Would someone please send me a link of him being an egotistical jerk? I think people assume he's super arrogant because he's so incredibly good.

It might take me a while to get to them all; so far I checked out 2 videos each by Giardino and Ohta; didn't care for the former, but liked Ohta very much; clean and in the pocket, with really nice phrasing, and different than Yngwie, none of which I thought applied to Giardino; not saying he's no good, but not my cuppa, and for me personally, one out of two ain't bad, so thanks. I'll get around to the rest soon, as well as send you some you might like.

Excellent... and Kelly Simonz and George Bellas are also amazing players! Check them out. I also like the way George Lynch plays, he's got a cool attack.

More thoughts on ego; I believe our art rises above other aspects of our personality, so I don't let musicians sometimes abrasive personalities inform my opinion of their art. Another of my heroes and favorites; Jaco Pastorius, used to introduce himself (while still an unknown), to jazz legends and anyone else, as "the greatest bass player in the world"; cracked me up, but he changed the bass for everyone; used to say "it ain't bragging if you can back it up". ;)

Anyway, I appreciate the new names (I've heard of Stump, but not really listened); don't know Giardino, or Ohta; I'll be checking them out. I agree about ego; we all have one, but Yngwie has taken a lot of heat, and justifiably, for being totally in your face with his egotistical comments. I remember an interview where he said (paraphrasing from memory): "Everyone knows I'm the main creative force in my field of music"; I tended to agree, but his head seemed pretty big; made me laugh.

I guess I'll have to check out a few more players; my heart is closer to a more jazz, blues/jazz or jazz/rock approach, but I love most kinds of music that are played with skill and passion, so I sometimes listen with great pleasure to Yngwie and other "Bach n Rollers". More often I am apt to seek out Allan Holdsworth (my favorite guitarist), John Stowell, Jeff Beck, Scott Henderson, Jennifer Batten, Guthrie Govan, and non-guitarists like Coltrane, Bird, Hiromi (incredible keyboards), etc.

I agree Shawn Lane was a great guy and a unbelievable player. I have a cassette of Powers Of Ten by Shawn Lane that I bought many years ago and I still have it, what a great album that is, it's brilliant. But with that said... I'm more into the neo-classical players like Blackmore, Walter Giardino, Stump, Katsu Ohta, and of course Yngwie Malmsteen. But I have great appreciation for Shawn Lane, he was an incredible musician. And trust me... Shawn Lane had an ego too, he just hid it better.

A healthy ego is needed; not necessarily a "big ego"; many of the greatest players are totally unassuming. If you watch Shawn Lane's videos where he talks, you can see a great example of that, and if you don't know who he is but you like Yngwie and other great players, you owe it to yourself to check him out.
