Yes you're right. POP is sincere. It doesn't have a limit of 3-5 minutes maximum. It doesn't need genre to appeal to a wide audience. And not 1 POP song conforms to the formula of another. See how pointless it feels to have some prick intercept a conversation; pick a few points to try'n object, just to be vexatious? It doesn't matter what length or genre or subject etc a piece is. Or it 'shouldn't' matter more like. But if you think POP is sincere, & with no restrictions.. You're a trendwhore.

Intriguing. You suggest that musicians with a more artistic approach forswear the 4 mins stipulation. Or maybe Airplay is something of the past. None the less, it's very disappointing when I play an album (like Kate Havnevik's "You") & every track is 3-4 minutes long, or a once 'genre defiant' artist releases an album (like Kosheen's "Independence") & turns out to be a genre-compliant let down. My initial reaction was one of relief! I am un-lovable, I assure you. And time is not your master. :)

POP is short for "Popular". And many Artists, Bands, etc design the track for airplay. The absolute maximum time allowed on the Radio is 4 mins, but you'd have to be VERY successful already to get the full limit. Otherwise 2-3mins is standard. Most aim for 3:30 which is in between. So, because money is more important to them, their best track is cut down & mastered to "the loudness war" standards (which destroys the track - look it up). Greed kills creativity Everywhere. Not just with POP. :(

Forgive the fustian! If you look at POP music, it is manufactured at airplay lengths to cater for the commercial market for profits. The last track over 5+ minutes long to be released commercially was Michael Jackson's Earth Song for a male artist, & Madonna's Frozen for a female artist. Many have followed this rule either intentionally or subconsciously. Even though it's detrimental (bad!) to the artistic approach to music. Basically I am scorning POP music! :)b & encourage others to defy it!

Are you kidding? :D I LOVE PROG! The best song has got to be The Cinema Show by Genesis! It's like 9 mins or whatever, goes into synth madness with septuple abstract time meters & stuff! Amazing! I have a huge project for next year where I do the same but with Electronic.. & get this.. NO "Kick-Snare" beats! lol Spocks Beard.. Haven't heard of them. Will investigate! Thanks ever so much! I love music SOO much! I'm like a music whore! He he!

Ever listen to progressive rock? (Yes; Genesis; ELP; Transatlantic; Spock's Beard; Marillion; Supertramp) It's rare to hear a prog-rock song that's less than 5 minutes. Rule are constantly broken in the prog-rock world.

At LAST! A Musician who doesn't care what others think & dares to go over this stupid 5 Minute limit thing. There's hope for the future of music yet. Stunning.
