love this version. Yeah he says the bride "passed" away instead of "went" away but its still an ambiguous story and I like that.

This early version is a rare glimpse at a masterpiece in flux. Note lyrics, "passed away " vs. "went away" "the fiercest beasts could all be put to sleep that way” vs. "the same silly way," etc.. I love this version...Gram sings with simplicity & soft heartbreak; then with simmering fury at the reverend’s idiocies. SO powerful it just floors me!
