"Streets of Baltimore" by Gram Parsons, from the album GP (1973).

Lyrics:

Well I sold the farm to take my woman where she used to be

We left our kin and all our friends back there in Tennessee

And I bought those one way tickets she had often begged me for

And they took us to the streets of Baltimore

Well her heart was filled with gladness when she saw those city lights

She said the prettiest place on earth was Baltimore at night

Well a man feels proud to give his woman what she's longing for

And I kinda liked the streets of Baltimore

When I got myself a factory job, I ran an old machine

And I bought a little cottage in a neighborhood serene

And every night when I'd come home with every muscle sore

She'd drag me through the streets of Baltimore

Well I did my best to bring her back to what she used to be

Then I soon learned she loved those bright lights more than she loved me

Now I'm a going back on that same train that brought me here before

While my baby walks the streets of Baltimore

While my baby walks the streets of Baltimore

I love this version, but have a listen to the Little Willies' version.

No disrespect to Gram Parsons, but Charley Pride's version is far superior on every level.

Gram Parson's version of this song is the best by far.

TP and Glaser bros is the best in my humble opine but i do enjoy Gram's version as well as Bobby Bare but Tp's voice is classic all time country.

I listened to Tompall/Glaser version and... Well... Gram's version is just so much more updated and less hokey of a rendition. Plus Gram had Elvis Presley's band playing on it? You can't ask for better than having James Burton, Glen D. Hardin and the boys backing you up? And I didn't even mention Miss EmmyLou Harris yet?Sorry.. this has been and will always be the definitive version for me and all the musicians I know and played with over the past 40 years. Give Tompall the credit for writing it, but Gram made it fly.

OK version of this classic. If you want to hear the song sung to perfection, check out Tompall and The Glaser Brothers version right here on YouTube. Tompall wrote the words and music to the entire song with the exception of the music to the chorus, which was written by Harlan Howard. Absolutely NO one did it better than the Glaser Brothers, featuring the amazing voice of Tompall Glaser. Listen for yourself:)
